Welcome Building, Bristol - Installation of DucoWall Screening 70 louvre-wall system
Overview of the Welcome Building Project
The Welcome Building, a key part of Bristol's evolving Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone, is positioned near Bristol Temple Meads station and the Brunel floating harbour. Designed with flexibility in mind, the building provides open and reconfigurable spaces ranging between 10,000 to 30,000 square feet. All floors can be subdivided to accommodate multiple tenants, offering adaptability to suit diverse business needs.
DucoWall Screening 70 Installation
To complement the high standards of engineering and sustainability, DucoWall Screening 70 was chosen to shield technical equipment on the rooftop. This durable, aluminium louvre-wall system offers adaptability and efficiency, meeting the aesthetic and functional demands of the project.
The DucoWall Screening system allows for a choice of louvre-blade pitches:
1. 75 mm pitch – for sleek appearance and near-complete privacy
2. 112 mm pitch – a balance between privacy and airflow, offering all-round benefits
3. 150 mm pitch – for optimal airflow and cost savings due to the reduced number of blades
For the Welcome Building, the optimal pitch was selected based on the specific requirements of the project, including airflow needs and the overall design objectives. The Z-shaped louvre blades of DucoWall Screening are clicked directly onto the support sections, allowing for quick and efficient assembly on-site, reducing installation time and costs.
Benefits of the DucoWall Screening System
Key advantages of the DucoWall Screening system include:
Cost efficiency:
Large blade spans (up to 2,400 mm) reduce the number of support sections required, translating into savings in both materials and fitting.
Customisation:
The flexibility in blade pitch allows the system to be tailored to meet different design goals, including privacy, airflow, and aesthetics.
Durability:
The sturdy aluminium construction ensures long-term reliability and performance, while maintaining a modern and clean visual appeal.
Quick installation:
The blade design enables rapid assembly, minimising disruption during installation and reducing labour costs.
Partner Collaboration
The installation of the DucoWall Screening system was carried out in collaboration with Britplas, a specialist in windows, curtain walling, and security fencing, and our partner Price Engineered Solutions, leaders in the supply of heating and ventilation components for key projects across the UK.
Price Engineered Solutions specialises in natural and displacement ventilation systems, grilles, diffusers, and radiant panels. As a partner of DUCO, they contributed their expertise in external louvre screening and systems, ensuring a seamless integration of the DucoWall Screening system with the building’s overall design and ventilation requirements. This partnership ensured a smooth and efficient integration of the system with the building’s design and construction schedule.
Conclusion
The Welcome Building project in Bristol is an example of how modern design, sustainability, and innovative engineering can come together to create a flexible, future-proof workspace. The use of DucoWall Screening 70 on the rooftop demonstrates the building’s commitment to both function and form, ensuring technical equipment is shielded effectively while maintaining aesthetic standards. This installation aligns with the project's broader goals of sustainability, efficiency, and long-term tenant satisfaction.
