The Berlin Schulbauoffensive is the largest investment project of the last and current legislative period. The aim is to further reduce the school renovation backlog and build new schools for the growing city. Funds will be made permanently available for long-term structural maintenance so that no new refurbishment backlog arises. DUCO is playing its part in this school building campaign.
Investing in the future
Our students are our future. They will determine the contours and perspectives of the future (economic) world. It is therefore crucial to provide students with a pleasant and healthy learning environment.
In order to achieve this, the goal of investing more than EUR 550 million per year in Berlin schools in the medium term was set at the start of the Schulbauoffensive in 2016. Since 2016, expenditure has risen continuously and since 2021, the sub-target has been achieved with expenditure of over EUR 654 million. In August 2021, the Senate decided to achieve an expenditure line of EUR 700 million for school construction and maintenance in the future.
Intensive ventilation, technical façade cladding and solar shading
DUCO Ventilation & Sun Control is taking part in the Berlin school building campaign with a sophisticated combination of intensive ventilation, technical façade cladding and solar shading. In this way, DUCO has already equipped 2 Berlin schools with DUCO louvre walls type DucoWall Screening at the beginning of 2023: a new 3-stream modular primary school with sports hall on Schleizer Strasse in Berlin and a primary school on Conrad-Blenkle-Strasse in Berlin.
The DucoWall Screening louvre wall system is ideal as a privacy louvre for screening technical - often less attractive - areas. For this reason, this product was also used in the two school buildings in Berlin mentioned above.
Easy to install, various louvre types available
The DucoWall Screening aluminium louvre wall systems are attached directly to the wall profile using DUCO's patented ‘Direct Clip’ system and are therefore very easy to install. The special louvre shape is shaped in such a way that it can be processed in both an S and a Z shape. There are 3 possible designs available with different blade pitches where very high spans and high air permeability are possible.
Healthy thermal indoor climate for all students
In addition to this technical solution with DucoWall Screening, DUCO has numerous other solutions for schools to guarantee a healthy indoor climate. Below is an overview of the two pillars for ensuring a healthy indoor climate in schools.
- Ventilative cooling/intensive ventilation
Ventilated cooling cools the school building in a natural way by utilising large volume flows (= intensive ventilation).
The summer night ventilation via DucoGrille NightVent ventilation hatches ensures safe and intensive ventilation at night. The coolness of the night is stored in the thermal mass of the school building through ventilation cooling, so that pupils can spend the day in a fresh classroom.

- Architectural solar shading
Outside the summer holidays, we increasingly experience very hot days when the temperatures outside are higher than inside. Large or numerous glass surfaces can also cause the indoor temperature to rise considerably. The high internal heat build-up in a classroom on these hot days is difficult to dissipate through ventilation. A mobile exterior solar shading system can help here.
External solar shading systems naturally prevent the classrooms from heating up and thus reduce the cooling load by up to 30 %.

All of the above solutions from DUCO can help the Berlin School Building Campaign achieve its goals to ensure that every school in Berlin is a good place. A place that inspires students so that they can grow into a bright future.
