iBeton, a concrete plant in Sint Niklaas , chose fabric sun blinds DucoScreen Front 95 to protect office workers from the merciless sun during the hot summer months. Completed in July 2022, the works represent architectural and sustainable design, where aesthetics and functionality merge into one beautiful whole.
"With DucoScreen Front 95, we have not only increased the comfort and well-being of our employees, but also improved the appearance of our building. And that is essential for a positive working environment,’ said the project manager of Vulsteke Company Buildings.
Fighting solar heat, a hot challenge?
When the sun is high, iBeton faces a hot challenge: excessive heat penetrating through the large glass facades. Despite careful attention to insulation during construction, the lack of effective shading led to the offices becoming uncomfortably warm during hot summer days. Productivity and saunas are incompatible, as everyone knows. Fortunately, DUCO quickly provided an answer to this burning problem.
DucoScreen Front 95 ‘to the rescue’
The DucoScreen Front 95 fabric solar shading emerged as the ideal choice because of its efficiency in blocking sunlight and heat penetration, while exuding a stylish aesthetic. Its seamless integration into the building façade, coupled with good value for money, made it an excellent solution for the iBeton office building.
Meticulous attention to detail
The iBeton office building stands out for its innovative approach to the integration of solar shading. A word of explanation is in order here.
As standard, sun blinds are integrated during the design phase where space is provided to conceal them above the external joinery. At iBeton, however, the need for sun blinds was not seen until after the new building had been completed. Both the screens and the screen guides therefore had to be surface-mounted.
"Despite this unconventional approach, meticulous attention to detail ensured smooth integration, with concealed screen gutters and surface-mounted guides contributing to the building's sleek aesthetic".
Careful planning and cooperation
The installation of the DucoScreen Front 95 went smoothly thanks to careful planning and cooperation. After consultation with the project team, including a site visit and meetings with contractors, the installation was completed within an 8-week timeframe. Despite the retrofit nature of the project, the installation was given a clean and elegant finish, demonstrating the adaptability and flexibility of the system.
Cooperation with DUCO
The collaboration between Vulsteke Bedrijfsgebouwen and DUCO is based on mutual trust. ‘We previously worked together on several projects. The seamless implementation of DUCO's solutions underlines the effectiveness of this cooperation. The timely delivery and adherence to the agreed deadlines reflect the professionalism and commitment of both parties,’ explains Vulsteke Bedrijfsgebouwen's project manager .
Conclusion
In summary, the successful integration of DucoScreen Front 95 solar shading into the iBeton building underlines the importance of proactive solar shading solutions in modern architectural design. By prioritising comfort, energy efficiency and aesthetic appeal, this project serves as a blueprint for sustainable building practices
Importance and added value of solar shading
In the quest for an optimal indoor climate, especially in hot summer months, the integration of shading solutions is paramount. By effectively blocking sunlight, shading systems such as the DucoScreen Front 95 prevent overheating, creating a comfortable environment conducive to productivity and well-being. Moreover, when combined with mechanical ventilation, these systems offer year-round benefits, maintaining comfort even during the colder winter months.
