CAR-T - Zwijnaarde

In the CAR-T project in Zwijnaarde, DUCO is responsible for intensive ventilation via two types of louvre wall systems and shading thanks to architectural solar shading.

CAR-T - Zwijnaarde

A pioneering facility is being built in Zwijnaarde, Ghent, for the production of CAR-T cell therapy, an innovative and personalised cancer treatment. This project, located in the Tech Lane Science Park, places exceptionally high demands on both technical performance and architectural design. The site's visual quality plan requires that all buildings meet strict aesthetic standards, resulting in a harmonious and high-quality whole.

In this project, DUCO provided intensive ventilation via two types of louvre wall systems and shading thanks to architectural solar shading solutions.

Why DUCO?

DUCO was recommended by the placer, and ASSAR Architects agreed because DUCO's products not only met the technical requirements, but also blended seamlessly with the site's aesthetic vision. Although ASSAR does not prescribe specific brands, DUCO was selected for their ability to provide a balance between functionality and architectural quality.

Installed DUCO products

1. DucoWall Classic 130HP

This continuous louvre wall system, DucoWall Classic 130HP, offers excellent water resistance thanks to its unique ‘High Performance’ louvre. The system is easy to install thanks to the ‘Turn-Click’ mechanism, which allows for quick installation.

2. DucoWall Classic 45HP

With a free passage of 60% and a sleek, modern design, this system, DucoWall Classic 45HP, is ideal for facades with high technical requirements. It combines aesthetics and functionality, even with large openings.

3. DucoSun Ellips Intermediate

These fixed or adjustable louvres, DucoSun Ellips Intermediate, provide diffused daylight and offer a wide choice of design options. The elliptical shape adds to the visual appeal of the façade.

Choice for DUCO products

In the original design, secondary volumes were provided in masonry with removable panels. For aesthetic reasons, such as harmony with the highly articulated masonry volumes, and because of technical requirements for large façade openings (HVAC), the executive design team proposed to execute these volumes with a continuous louvre wall system from DUCO. The colour and shadow patterns of the louvres provide a visual connection to the other buildings on the site.

Unique aspects of the project

The combination of a state-of-the-art production facility with a strict image quality plan resulted in an architecturally high-quality façade. The collaboration between various parties - including ASSAR, PM Group, and DUCO - was essential here.

Advantages of DUCO solutions

Aesthetic integration

Continuous louvre walls offer a contemporary look that harmonises with the rest of the site.

Functional design

The solutions combine visual quality with practical benefits, such as water resistance and optimal daylighting.

Flexibility

DUCO's systems are suitable for both wall and window louvres and can be easily adapted to technical requirements.

Conclusion

This project illustrates how high-quality architecture and innovative technology can go hand in hand. The use of DUCO's solutions not only met the technical requirements, but also enhanced the aesthetic value of the site. The result is a future-oriented facility that excels both functionally and visually.
